Kids Curly Routine | Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner
One of the goals I have for my kids is to give them protective hairstyles a lot more often. I want to give them styles that won’t cause their edges, or hair in general, to break off.
I also want to use products that are safe to leave in their hair after washing and styling. Specifically, products that won’t cause dryness or damage when left in the hair for a long period of time.
So I decided to try styling my toddler’s hair with the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner that’s designed to strengthen and restore hair.
I applied the product to my daughter’s hair after washing it and I only used two or three products for this style — the Shea Moisture Leave-In Conditioner, water, and I may have gone over her hair with a small amount of olive oil as a final step.
You could call this style a braid out with leave-in conditioner although I wasn’t really planning on doing a braid out on her hair and my braid outs often include more than four sections.
Styling Steps
As you can see first I separated her hair into four sections. Then I took the lower right section, sprayed it with water, applied a generous amount of the Shea Moisture Strengthen & Restore Leave-In Conditioner to it, and detangled it with a wide tooth comb.
And yeah, I know those hair clips are kind of large for her head but they get the job done. 🙂
I repeated the previous steps with each section of her hair, but I divided each top section into two parts before detangling.
After detangling all of her hair I placed it back in the original four parts and then braided each section.
Last of all, I touched up her edges, slipped on a hair band, brushed those baby hairs in place, then let it rest and air dry until the next morning.

Safety Of Derma E Even Tone Brightening Cleanser’s Ingredients
I forgot to cover her hair with a satin bonnet before she went to bed, but I don’t think she would have been comfortable with it on all night anyway. Plus, the hair bonnet she has doesn’t have a very snug fit and would likely slip off her head while she’s asleep.
The next morning I unbraided her hair, repeated the last step from the previous day, and left her hair down.
The Results
I was satisfied, but not extremely excited about the results. The braid pattern didn’t turn out very defined like I’d prefer, but that’s what I expected. Usually, I would have to use a styling gel to get really defined results.
I think her hair turned out a little dull and lacked a soft shine that I desire. But that’s not a big deal to me. I understand the main purpose of this product is to strengthen and restore damaged hair.
So in the future, I might need to use the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner along with another product that will give her hair a light shimmer.
Most importantly, this product provides safe and nourishing ingredients for her hair. And if you want to know more detailed information about it then read my Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner Review.
Finding the right natural hair products for my kids has taken a lot of trial and error. Though I’m still learning the right hair care methods, I would say it’s worth the effort.
It helps keep their hair healthy and will hopefully teach them how to care for their own hair in the future.
