How To Make Baking Soda Teeth Whitening Toothpaste
Baking soda toothpaste is what I’ve used for many years. There are different variations of homemade toothpaste I’ve made over time. No matter what toothpaste I’ve used, it’s the basic toothpaste recipe that I seemed to fall back on.
I’ll be sharing how I make baking soda to whiten teeth using peroxide. When I make baking soda toothpaste this is mainly the recipe I use. The ingredients are cheap and include just two staple items I usually have on hand — baking soda and peroxide.
It’s super easy to make and the ingredients are safe to use orally, though it’s important to note that you should not swallow peroxide.
There’s one other thing I’d like to mention. Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide can weaken your enamel if used too often. Some say to use it only a few times a week. Talk to your dental or a health professional for advice. I personally will stay on the side of caution and limit my use as well.
Baking Soda and Peroxide Toothpaste
This is the toothpaste I use and make most of the time. The reason I add peroxide is to increase the whitening abilities of the toothpaste for my teeth. Personally, when using baking soda and water alone I feel like the mixture needs an added boost. But, that’s only in my personal experience. The results may vary depending on each person.
Baking Soda & Hydrogen Peroxide Toothpaste
- In a container add 2 parts baking soda and 1 part peroxide.
- If you want a thicker paste consistency, use less peroxide.
- For a thinner toothpaste slowly add more peroxide.
- Mix until you get the thickness you like.
- That’s it!
Important Tip
- Be sure the hydrogen peroxide you choose is the kind made to use as a gargle or rinse.
Baking Soda Toothpaste without peroxide
If you want to use water instead of peroxide follow the same instructions above and just replace the peroxide with water.

Important notes about this baking soda toothpaste
When adding peroxide or water to the baking soda it’s best to do a little at a time. Trust me! With baking soda, a little bit of liquid added goes a long way.
Other kinds of homemade baking soda toothpaste I’ve made included ingredients such as virgin coconut oil, tea tree oil, or peppermint oil. These are other great varieties of toothpaste if you want to increase its ability to fight off plaque, bad breath, and bacteria in your mouth.
Baking soda can be abrasive so remember to be gentle when brushing your teeth with it. Brushing too hard could damage your gums or cause bleeding.
Wrap up
There are numerous kinds of toothpaste available in stores but many of them include ingredients that are not very safe to put to use orally and cause health issues. Since brushing teeth is part of a daily routine it’s best to use an effective toothpaste with natural ingredients safe for your mouth and overall health.
