Honest Beauty Gentle Gel Cleanser Review
Are you looking for a facial cleanser without harsh chemicals? Would you like to use a face wash that doesn’t overdry your skin? The Honest Beauty Gentle Facial Cleanser could be a good option for you.
When shopping there are so many facial cleansers to choose from, but I like to narrow it down to the products with the cleanest ingredients.
That’s one of the main reasons I decided to try Honest Beauty Gentle Gel Facial Cleanser.
I’ll be giving you all the key details about this cleanser along with some very valuable facts about the company I believe you’ll benefit from knowing.
Let me first offer a little background about the company.
WHO OWNS HONEST BEAUTY?
The Honest Beauty product line is a part of Honest Company. It was founded by the well-known actress Jessica Alba. On the Honest Company website, you’ll find a bit of insight into what the company stands for. In short, the company shares that its purpose is to create safe and effective products for families.
On the Honest site, Jessica Alba quotes a statement about her aim. Read it below.
“I created The Honest Company because you shouldn’t have to choose between what works and what’s good for you.”
– JESSICA ALBA, FOUNDER
ARE HONEST COMPANY’S PRODUCTS SAFE TO USE?
Here is a brief list of what Honest Company takes into consideration when choosing ingredients for products.
- Does it best to avoid chemicals of concern in baby products
- Seeks to improve the use of renewable resources from plants, green chemistry, and recyclable materials
- Provides transparency about what goes into their products
- Has a NO LIST of over 2500 chemicals/materials the company chooses not to include in its products
- Develops a rigorous safety process of testing and validating trusted ingredients
- Require manufacturing partners to follow the gold standard for manufacturing
- Strives to be environmentally friendly and eliminate materials of concern
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT HONEST CO. “NO LIST”
Honest says even though it strives to exclude chemicals/materials from the NO LIST they can’t always eliminate cross-contamination during manufacturing.

ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS IN HONEST GENTLE GEL CLEANSER
Special ingredients in the cleanser are chamomile and calendula extract. These both help to calm and cleanse the skin.
Chamomile extract is often added to facial and body products because it’s effective at reducing facial swelling and skin irritation. It also reduces pain from infections and underlying issues of inflammation.
Calendula extract has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits. It’s been reported to improve eczema and psoriasis. It also has antioxidants and hydrates the skin.
WHAT IT DOES BESIDES CLEANSE YOUR FACE
This ties into the key ingredients we just went over. It cleanses gently without overdrying your skin. It’s also made to calm your skin from any irritations. It works well enough to remove makeup.
HAS IT BEEN TESTED BY A DERMATOLOGIST?
Yes. Honest Beauty says the Gentle Gel Cleanser has been tested by a dermatologist.
IS IT SAFE TO USE WHILE PREGNANT?
The company says it is safe enough to use while pregnant. However, if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, it’s best to check with your doctor first.
Since we’re on the subject, I thought it would be a good idea to include a list of ingredients to AVOID while pregnant. These are not the only chemicals to avoid, but some that are commonly found in skincare products.
- Salicylic acid
- Retinoids
- Parabens
- Synthetic fragrances
- Formaldehyde donors
- Phthalates
- Petrolatum
is it really safe to use?
When I want to find out if a product is safe to use, I first take a look at the ingredients. Another thing I do is check the EWG’s Skin Deep database. I use this tool to get more in-depth information on the ingredients’ safety levels. The Gentle Gel Cleanser has a low score, which in my opinion is pretty good. But, as mentioned, the EWG will give you a more detailed report.
how you’re supposed to use it
It’s made to use every day and you only need 1 to 2 pumps in your hands with water to create a foam. Massage it all over your face while it’s wet then rinse it off. Be careful not to get it in your eyes.
MY REVIEW OF HONEST GENTLE GEL CLEANSER
So, does the Honest Beauty Gentle Gel Cleanser do what it says? I’ve been using the cleanser for a little over a week. I wrote about my New Natural Facial Wash + Collagen & Superfood when I first purchased it.
From my experience, Honest Beauty Gentle Gel Cleanser does what it’s made to do. The cleanser is truly gentle and light to the touch and on my face. After using it my face feels properly cleansed and refreshed.
My skin did seem a little dry after using, but in my opinion, that’s common with many cleansers or soaps before moisturizing your skin. Not sure how everyone else’s skin is but mine is usually dry after using cleansers in general, until I apply face cream.
Other tips to remember to avoid overdrying your skin (I’ve learned from experience):
- Make sure the water isn’t hot.
- It’s better to wash your face with cool water.
- Don’t use too much cleanser at once.
Don’t make the mistake I did! It’s best to wash your face with cooler water. Washing your face with hot water can lead to dry skin and enlarged pores. Also, don’t shower with hot water either for the same reason.
Going overboard and using too much soap when you wash your face can over dry your skin as well.
Overall, I don’t consider it an issue. I always follow up with a facial cream after washing my face. This is an essential step to keep my skin moisturized. I follow up with Jason’s Moisturizing Age Renewal Crème.
I haven’t put on any makeup since I started using this face wash, but I’ll try to update you on how well it removes makeup if I do.
what I like about honest beauty gentle facial cleanser
I love that the gentle cleanser has natural ingredients. Chamomile and calendula extract are the main ingredients that do an effective job reducing inflammation and soothing skin.
It’s important to me that the company is owned by someone who cares about using and selling safe products. The cleanser is also affordable.
things I don’t like about the cleanser?
There isn’t much I don’t like about it. It has clean ingredients. It’s made without any harmful chemicals commonly found in beauty products. It keeps my skin clear, soft, and smooth.
