Crispy Curry Fried Whiting | Low Gluten – Healthy Fish Recipe

curry_fried_whiting

There’s something I love about the taste of fried fish with curry flavor. I don’t fry fish that often but when I do I like to make curry the main feature. I would say, most of the time I fry my fish this way.

And if you love to eat other curry dishes such as beef or chicken curry, then you will likely enjoy this Curry Fried Whiting.

You can use whatever fish you like. Whiting was the fish I happened to buy at the time I made this recipe. Although I do prefer the taste of whiting over some other types of fish.

A Little About Einkorn Whole Wheat Flour

I used einkorn whole wheat flour to coat the whiting. I love to use this flour for frying and baking. In fact, this is the flour I’ve mainly been using for years now.

I know wheat has been given a bad reputation in recent years, but einkorn wheat flour is not the same as the more modern hybridized versions of wheat.

It’s actually the first known wheat variety and even dates back to the times of the Bible. It’s low in gluten, a great source of vitamins, and trace minerals. It’s healthy. I love it.

The Seasonings …

I usually eyeball the amount of seasonings I use when I’m preparing fish, meat, or poultry unless I’m trying out someone else’s recipe. I’m generally precise about measuring the ingredients except for when I feel they need adjusting to improve the dish.

So in this Curry Fried Whiting recipe, I didn’t measure the seasonings. The measurements are approximate.

I usually season the flour then taste it to make sure it tastes the way I want it to. Curry is the main flavor I want to stand out so I’m generous with the curry powder, and as I mentioned, I give the flour a taste test before frying.

At the same time, curry powder can be robust so I’m careful not to go overboard with it.

My love for coconut oil …

Coconut oil is my favorite oil for frying. I like the flavor it adds. I usually use unrefined coconut oil for cooking, but refined coconut oil was the only kind available at the store.

Virgin coconut oil is more nutritious than unrefined, but refined coconut oil has a higher smoke point of 400 degrees. Virgin coconut oil is best for medium heat and has a lower smoke point of 350 degrees.

Also, refined coconut oil is pretty tasteless and odorless. So I would suggest using it if you don’t like the taste or smell of unrefined coconut oil.

What’s your favorite way to fry fish? Thanks for sharing!
