Basic checklist you need before redecorating
As a woman, something is exciting about redecorating a room. Maybe, I can’t speak for everyone, but I can speak for myself. But, I have to admit, having other responsibilities can take away the exhilaration.
That’s one reason why I believe it’s essential to have a basic checklist before redecorating a room in your home or any space in general.
When I do any redecorating, I usually make a list of things I need to do and take notes about other important details I’ll need for the process.
My last decorating projects were nothing major. But, I know even the smallest redecoration without a plan in place, could turn into a nightmare. That’s another reason why I like to have a program in line before starting this kind of task.
Before reorganizing I usually map things out to lower the risk of things going wrong in the process. So, here’s a general idea of what I like to do before I start redecorating a room.
If you’re planning to redesign a space in your home then these tips may help to keep you a bit more organized.
1. Invision how you want your room to look
I like to begin with this step. I start by brainstorming. Or you could call it daydreaming too. I think about what I want the room to look like in the end. There’s usually something that inspires my design ideas. It could be absolutely anything.
Think of inspiration as a noun. Meaning, any person, place, or thing could be what inspires or motivates your layout of choice.
This can help you determine factors such as colors, materials, style, and overall theme of your design. I also like to think about the things I definitely want and/or need.
2. Consider how much space you have
Decide how you want the furniture to be arranged and if you think you’ll be satisfied with how it will look in a specific area.
This is one area I’d like to think I’m a little skilled at. Mainly, because I’m used to working with a limited amount of room. I’ve learned many tricks and hacks to get the most out of a small space.
If you’re planning to get new furniture it’s important to measure the space you have and measure the furniture as well. Especially, if you don’t have a huge amount of space to work with. You don’t want to purchase new items only to discover they’re not able to fit in the space you wanted.
3. Write down what you want to buy
After I have a basic idea of the room design and style I want, I window shop. For me, that’s usually online as of lately. I browse to see what’s available that matches the design I’m interested in. I make memos of those things or save them to favorites or wish lists.
4. Calculate the cost
This one is particularly important if you’re on a budget. Make note of the prices of all the items you want to buy. After considering the cost of everything, decide if you truly have the budget for what you plan to purchase.
Maybe cost isn’t an issue for you. However in my opinion it may still be wise to estimate and at least make a mental note of how much you spend no matter how much or little is in your bank account.
Or, maybe you don’t intend to make a purchase for your new room arrangement. Great! In this case, buying furniture and calculating the price is obviously not necessary.
I hope you found these tips helpful. If you’re planning a simple room design I hope this information will help you get your project off to the right start.
